Several Great Events Featured This Mother's Day Weekend in Delaware, Maryland and Southeastern Pennsylvania

Wow, what a great few days we have in store for this coming weekend at the Delaware and Maryland beaches and throughout the region. If this weekend doesn't get you in the mood for a fantastic summer season coming up soon, then we simply don't know what will.

Fun and family friendly outdoor events are everywhere over the next few days, scattered throughout the region and offering all kinds of great opportunities to get outside and enjoy life.

We do regret to inform you, however, that two events we were going to feature in today's "Weekender Blog," namely the Wilmington Flower Market and Phoenixville Beer & Wine events, were last-minute cancellations due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions in those areas.

But not to worry, there's still a whole lot going on throughout the region. From Funland's 2021 opening days, to the always fabulous Springest in Ocean City, a special fun event in Dewey Beach and lots more, there's no shortage of fun and exciting things to do from May 7-9.

So keep reading below for much more on the events we just mentioned, as well as a few more options for the next few days in the coastal region and beyond.

Here are the Oldfather Group's top selections for the weekend of May 7-9. Enjoy!

Ocean City Springfest (May 6-9)

Is there a surer sign of Spring at the beaches than the annual Springfest festivities in Maryland's favorite playground of Ocean City?

Celebrating its 30th year in 2021, Springfest is again being celebrated over four fun-filled days at the Ocean City Inlet. Hours are scheduled for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Sunday, May 9.

There will again be scores of vendors, tons of local food and all sorts of entertainment headlining the event.

A few of this year's headlining acts include Randy Lee Ashcraft & the Saltwater Cowboys, Frank & Trish Curreri, the Dunehounds, River & Rhodes and the Beach Bandits.

See the full entertainment schedule below and be sure to visit for more information on the 2021 Springfest Festival in Ocean City.

Funland Opening Day (May 8)

In what's become a highly anticipated Mother’s Day Weekend tradition in Rehoboth Beach, the fabulous Funland amusement park officially opens its doors for the 2021 season this Saturday, May 8.

All games and rides will be open this weekend, but reservations will still be required at least in the early part of the summer season due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions. Games will still be accessible without reservations.

Reservations for Funland are offered in two-hour blocks throughout the day and masks will be required for any visitors over the age of 2. Social distancing rules will also be enforced.

More than 60 local and regional artists will be on hand for this year's event, along with live music, food trucks, a student art gallery and more. This is a free event with free parking available on a first come, first served basis.

2021 Spring Dewey Golden Jubilee (May 7-9)

Hundreds of Golden Retrievers and their owners are expected this weekend for the first of two annual “Golden” weekends in Dewey Beach.

Frequently cited as one of the most dog-friendly beaches in America, Dewey Beach will again be party central this weekend, with dozens of golden haired canines chasing tennis balls on the beach and frolicking in the still chilly waters of the Atlantic.

Festivities will look a bit different in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the pooches and their owners will still be gathering at the beach, just without a lot of the raffles, prizes, games and more from previous years.

Maryland Coast Bike Festival (May 8)

Feel like hopping on your bicycle for a scenic early Spring ride in Maryland's coastal region? Then this event is made for you!

There are three different routes to choose from for this year's Maryland Coast Bike Festival, which is designed to bring awareness to and increase volunteer efforts at Assateague Island, specifically to keep the island free of trash and to preserve the habitat.

The first-time event is centered at the Ocean City Harbor, where bike vendors, bike clubs, kids' activities and plenty of great food and drink will be available for all visitors.

If attending, organizers recommend you park at the West Ocean City Park & Ride before heading over to the event, as parking is limited on Sunset Avenue.
